The Choir of Kifisia 1937
The Chorus of Kifisia 1937, founded in 1937, has maintained an unbroken tradition of participation in performances since its inception, even during the challenging period of World War II. The choir has made significant contributions to numerous festivals and events both in Greece and internationally, showcasing its talent in prestigious venues such as the International Competitive Festival of Athens in 1996 and 2005, as well as participating in events in Italy, Bulgaria, former Yugoslavia, Hungary, Austria, Norway, and beyond.
Distinguished for its diverse repertoire, the choir skillfully performs works spanning from the early Renaissance to the Romantic era, encompassing compositions by both Greek and foreign contemporary artists. Organized into different sections including Male, Male Ecclesiastical, Female, and Mixed, the Chorus continually explores and presents the rich tapestry of choral music.
Beyond its regular performances, the Chorus has curated thematic events dedicated to renowned Greek and foreign composers. These include captivating evenings devoted to Opera, Operetta, Serenade, and Greek Art Song. Annually, the choir holds a celebrated concert and hosts the "Artistic Meeting of Choral Music," drawing choirs from across Greece and abroad to participate.
In 1996, the Chorus took on the responsibility of organizing the "5th Panhellenic Conference of Choir Representatives," a three-day event held in Kifisia, attended by 257 delegates from all corners of Greece. Additionally, the choir has been recognized with the Audience Award at the International Festival of Athens in 1996 and has received honorary distinctions for outstanding performances in Greece and internationally.
Acknowledging its enduring contribution to cultural events, the Chorus of Kifisia 1937 has received esteemed honors from organizations such as the Rotary Club of Kifisia, the Lions Club, and the Association for Children and Family. Throughout its history, the choir has been led by various distinguished conductors, and since 2004, the accomplished composer and conductor Charalambos Michailidis has been at the helm, guiding its artistic journey.
